The Buddhist Society of Lebanon will soon welcome submissions in the following categories:

  • Scholarly, peer-reviewed articles to be published online in the society's journal, the Journal of Progressive Buddhism;
  • Opinion pieces and essays to be published in the society's e-zine

Published pieces will reflect the issues, concerns, and challenges of Progressive Buddhism at the beginning of the twenty-first century.

New! The Journal of Progressive Buddhism is Seeking Members for its Editorial Board

The newly-created, fully-online, Journal of Progressive Buddhism, is currently seeking members for its editorial board.

The peer-reviewed journal will serve as the main scholarly output of the online-based “Buddhist Society of Lebanon,” (http://www.bsoleb.org) the first Buddhist society in that country.

"Progressive Buddhism," as seen by the Society, is a method which takes the best of the Buddhist body of teachings and keeps what is most appropriate for a rational and fulfilling way of life. A “Statement of Principles” is available on the society’s webpage (http://www.bsoleb.org/statement.htm).

The journal and the society are unique in Lebanon and the scholarly journal, as far as I know, is unique in the Middle East as well.

All papers submitted to the journal will undergo a rigorous review by at least two readers following the double-blind process. Reports will be expected in all three cases of clear acceptance, conditional acceptance, and rejection.

As soon as the editorial board is ready, a call for papers will be issued inviting submissions dealing with the challenges offered by contemporary Buddhist practices, mainly, but not exclusively, in non-Buddhist countries, and the need—if indeed such a need is found—to critically re-assess Buddhist scriptures, teachings, and practices at the beginning of the twenty-first century.

Editorial board membership requirements are:

  • A Ph.D. in a related field (Religion, Far-Eastern Studies, Philosophy, Critical Theory, Sociology, Comparative Studies, Psychology, etc.);
  • A genuine interest in seeing Buddhism develop as a viable way of thinking and way of life in a rational, secular world.

If you are interested in joining the journal’s board, please send a curriculum vitae along with your area(s) of expertise.
