The
Journal of Progressive Buddhism is seeking submissions of academic
articles for its first issue and welcomes papers dealing with
Progressive Buddhism. Possible topics may include, but are not limited
to, the following: - How can Buddhism, in its present form(s), appeal to the rational, scientific, and/or skeptical mind? - Can Buddhism and the Buddha himself be critically appraised? - What is the history of critical/Progressive Buddhism? How have similar endeavors fared? - Can the Buddhist canon/writings be advantageously read in a way similar to that heralded by Biblical Criticism and/or to the more controversial “criticism of the Bible”? What are the limits between the two? - How can one, at the same time, accept the mainly pragmatic, even skeptical stance of the Buddha with regards to accepted beliefs, and deal with the obvious gender discrimination present in the many suttas, and with, for example, such concepts as rebirth? - How can a "liberal" or "progressive" adaptation of Buddhism be achieved? - What is the place and role of ritual in contemporary Buddhism? - What is the role of the “New Technologies” in advancing Buddhism? - How do “Cyber-Sanghas” differ from their “analog” counterparts, and should they? © 2006-2008 The Buddhist Society of Lebanon |
